It's important to read all the instructions carefully, as only students who submit complete applications following the guidelines will be considered.

Applications are completed through our advising system, Lacai. To make sure you don鈥檛 lose your work, we recommend typing your responses in a Word document first, as they may not save automatically.

Eligibility

  • First-generation and low-income households聽础苍诲/翱谤听Underrepresented in graduate education
  • 3.0 GPA or above (consider applying even if you don鈥檛 meet the required GPA)
  • ALL disciplines are encouraged to apply (STEM, Arts and Letters, Education, Health Sciences, etc.)聽
  • Interested in pursuing graduate studies

What do I Need to Apply?

Before you start, consider the following:

  • Do I have someone(s) to speak to my scholarly potential? Is this person an educator, or academic advisor, or research mentor?
  • Do I have proof of the work and experiences you鈥檝e had related to scholarship and research? Or something that shows proof of my research potential?
  • Do I have any samples of past work to showcase my writing skills?
  • Do I have an e-portfolio or LinkedIn page exhibiting the interesting student experiences I鈥檇 like to share?
  • Am I willing to attend an application workshop to ensure I have the best chance of success?
  • Do I know how many credits I have currently?

Application Checklist

  • Copy of Recent Federal Tax Return (first two pages of 1040 or 1040A; if a dependent, these will be your parent鈥檚 tax forms)
  • Letter of Recommendation completed by an academic or research faculty member
  • Shareable link to ePortfolio or Linked In page
  • Academic Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Writing Sample (samples can include previous submissions or assignments from your coursework. Your sample should be no more than 1-2 pages in length).
  • Personal Statement (250 words max). Your statement should reflect your educational goals and motivation for pursuing a doctoral degree.
